Senior Program Associate, Data2X

Position Overview

Data2X, housed at the UN Foundation, is a technical and advocacy platform dedicated to improving the quality, availability, and use of gender data to make a practical difference in the lives of women and girls worldwide. Data2X works with UN agencies, governments, civil society, academics, and the private sector to close gender data gaps, promote expanded and unbiased gender data collection, and use gender data to improve policies, strategies, and decision-making.

The Senior Program Associate will provide programmatic leadership and administrative support to Data2X’s programs. Data2X has adopted a new strategy, and this position will play a role in implementing and realizing it. A key element of the strategy, which the Senior Associate will support, is the connection between data and policy.

While the role will span multiple subject domains, there will be a particular focus on women’s economic empowerment. The Senior Program Associate will support the Women’s Financial Inclusion Data (WFID) partnership. The WFID partnership connects international and development finance institutions with networks of regulators and financial service providers around a common commitment towards women’s financial inclusion data.

The Senior Program Associate will report to the Senior Manager of Programs and Operations and will also work closely with the rest of the team, including the Senior Fellow.

Essential Functions

Programmatic Support (50%)

Working closely with the Senior Manager of Programs & Operations, the Senior Program Associate will support programmatic work on improving gender data quality, availability, and use. The Senior Program Associate will:

  • Work closely with external partners, including consultants and grantees, to implement projects
  • Ensure projects and deliverable timelines are met
  • Work closely with the advocacy and communications team to draft content related to programmatic work for reports, briefs, presentations, blog posts, talking points and other products
  • Support the ideation and planning of new projects and programs

Women’s Financial Inclusion Data Partnership (35%)

In 2022, the final year of the partnership, six country pilots will be conducted to build awareness and national capacity on sex-disaggregated supply-side financial inclusion data. The Senior Associate will work closely with the Senior Fellow and Senior Manager, support the implementation phase of the WFID partnership.

  • Support the Senior Fellow to manage the WFID workplan and deliverables, in close collaboration with WFID partners, including:
    • Project manage national implementation plans for six countries in collaboration with project partners and consultants, including convening quarterly country working group meetings
    • Collate and coordinate technical input from the Data2X Senior Fellow, WFID partners, and consultants
    • Coordinate with the Data2X advocacy team on advocacy messaging and key moments
  • Facilitate WFID partnership, including:
    • Regular relationship management with key partner focal points and the WFID Steering Committee
    • Lead partner communications and correspondence, including monthly WFID partnership email updates
    • Coordination and alignment of partners on efforts related to women’s financial inclusion data, including regular information-sharing and fostering collaboration opportunities
    • Organize and facilitate partner meetings, bilateral calls, and WFID events

Overall Support of Data2X activities (15%)

  • Assist with organizing and developing content for events and meetings.
  • Assist with developing proposals, requests for proposals, and grant reporting.
  • Represent Data2X at meetings and events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Selection Criteria

  • Master’s degree is required.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a relevant field, such as women’s economic empowerment, gender data, data for development, financial inclusion, etc.
  • Exceptional relationship and project management skills.
  • Demonstrated experience with diverse stakeholder engagement and coalition-building.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a collaborative manner.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication, writing, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to meet regular attendance/tardiness policy.
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle stress.
